The first tea trees were planted in the Yunnan province. The was used as medicine from 2,700 BCE before later becoming a drink. While tea is now grown in Japan, it was originally from China. (Source: DukeAsh)This Buddhist practice popularised the consumption of tea. Since the religion banned alcohol, tea was an excellent way to stay awake during meditation. Tea was consumed by the aristocracy and monks and became popular under the Sui dynasty between 581 and 618.Once it arrived in Japan in the 9th, it became a huge success. It was very quickly grown locally so that the populace wouldnât have to import from China.Learn more about the different types of tea in Japan. The Religious Aspects of the Japanese Tea CeremonyUnsurprisingly, the tea ceremony originated in China with the writings of Lu Yu: Ch'a Ching or The Classic of Tea in 760 CE. The author explained the history of tea in China from the Shennong to the Tang Dynasty. If poisoned, Shennong would eat tea leaves to purify himself. The book mentions the culture around preparing tea. The book, which comes in three volumes, is nowadays thought of like the Bib le of tea. While tea ceremonies aren't quite like a religious service, several religious elements need to be observed. (Source: terimakasih0)The tea ceremony has a religious aspect. Lu Yu was heavily influenced by Zen Buddhishm. These ideas would evolve into the tea ceremony thatâs still performed today in Japan. In the 9th century, Buddhist monks were sent to Japan to China. Theyâd bring tea with them to Japan. The Japanese Emperor Saga started the spread of drinking of tea to the Japanese upper classes in 815 CE. He visited the monk Eishu who offered him a drink of sencha tea, a popular pastime in China under the Tang Dynasty. It became fashionable in Japanese intellectual circles. At the time, tea was packaged into blocks to facilitate its transport. Itâs then warmed and a piece is broken off by hand or with a knife and ground into a powder. Then, hot water (not boiling) is added to the powder.Japanese green tea remained a rare pearl as it was only grown in small quantities locally for m edicinal purposes and consumption by the nobility. In Japan, the monk Eisai popularised the consumption of tea. He brought green tea seeds from China at the end of the 12th century and planted them in a temple in Kyoto. Heâd then grind the green tea leaves into a fine powder thereby creating matcha. He introduced this new way to consume tea and insisted on the benefits it had: metabolism, antioxidants, detoxification, reduced cholesterol, vitamins, etc.Due to its links to Zen Buddhism, matcha tea was used in Buddhist monasteries in religious rituals. Thanks to high levels of caffeine, it was used to keep monks awake during meditation.Learn about attending a Japanese tea ceremony. Itâs mentioned in Lu Yuâs writings and it mentions the temperature of the water and the necessary utensils to prepare it. The samurai had a profound influence on the tea ceremony. (Source: WikiImages)While Ensai popularised tea across Japan, it was the samurai whoâd make it a veritable ritual. In the 8th century, warriors started drinking matcha. They would organise magnificent parties for their guests in which theyâd have to be able to distinguish the different teas. The guests would pass the cups around to taste the drinks and guess what they were. Passing a single cup or bowl around in a tea ceremony arose during this time.Of course, this ritual spread to the other classes whoâd drink tea in tearooms. This helped create the rooms in which tea ceremonies now take place.Find out what happens in a Japanese tea ceremony. The Father of the Japanese Tea CeremonyMurata Juko is thought of as the father of the Japanese tea ceremony. He designed the tearooms in which heâd dedicate his life to learning more about the ritual and perfecting it.The philosophy of the tea ceremony started with him. He was a ma ster of Zen meditation and became a monk aged 11. He spent the rest of his life in Nara in his tearoom teaching the art of tasting tea.It wasnât until the 16th century that the tea ceremony would spread to all strata of Japanese societies. Sen no Rikyu developed the key concepts of the ceremony:Sei, purity: the hardest concept to understand. When the Japanese enter the tearoom, they have to leave their problems at the door. The tea master needs to conduct the ceremony with an open heart.Kei, respect. This is about showing respect to each person in attendance regardless of their class. This is symbolised by the fact you have to bow to enter into the tea room and kneel in the seiza position.Wa, harmony. All the utensils used need to be in harmony with nature and bring peace to the guests.Jaku, tranquillity. This is about respecting all the aforementioned concepts to achieve tranquillity.Other concepts have appeared recently including âwabiâ or solitude and âkokororireâ or de votion.Rikyu also laid out 7 rules for the âWay of Teaâ:Prepare a bowl of tea.Place the charcoal to heat the water well.Arrange flowers as if they were growing in a field.Evoke coolness in summer and warmth in winter.Be ready ahead of time.Prepare for rain.Be considerate of other guests. What Is the Tea Ceremony like Nowadays?A tea ceremony is a symbolic event and quintessentially Japanese. At first, it was just for male guests but during the Meiji era, women were allowed to attend. Mastering the ceremony became a sign of a good housekeeper. While matcha tea can be consumed outside of tea ceremonies, it's not the same! (Source: teechen)There were extracurricular lessons on the tea ceremony and the utensils used to prepare the tea (bamboo whisk, teapots, bowls, etc.) started appearing for all budgets. There are three main schools of tea ceremony: Omotesenke, Urasenke, and Mushakojisenke. While there are three schools, there are a lot of similarities between them.Matcha tea isnât drunk in Japan outside of the tea ceremony. However, more and more of its being exported to the United States and across Asia. Matcha is consumed as a matcha latte with spices and also used in pastries and desserts like macaroons, ice cream, panna cotta, etc.A traditional tea ceremony can last up to 4 hours. Volume of a Triangular Prism Tutors
Volume of a Triangular Prism Tutors A triangular prism is one of the different kinds of prisms and it consists of congruent triangular bases and hence the name! In a triangular prism, the bases are connected by 3 parallelograms. Volume of a triangular prism is the measure of space contained inside the prism and this volume can be calculated using the volume formula. Volume of any prism in general is the product of the area of the base and its height and this formula is used to find the volume of the triangular prism. Example 1: What is the volume of a triangular prism whose base of the triangle is 4m, height of the triangular base is 2m and length of the prism is 6m? Given: base of the triangular prism == b= 4m Height of the base triangle, h = 2m Length of the prism, l = 6m Volume of a triangular prism, V = 1/2 * b * h * l This gives, volume, V= 1/2 * 4m * 2m * 6m= 24m3 Therefore, volume of the given triangular prism is 24m3 Example 2: What is the volume of a triangular prism whose base of the triangle is 10m, height of the triangular base is 7m and length of the prism is 12m? Given: base of the triangular prism == b= 10m Height of the base triangle, h = 7m Length of the prism, l = 12m Volume of a triangular prism, V = 1/2 * b * h * l This gives, volume, V= 1/2 * 10m * 7m * 12m= 420m3 Therefore, volume of the given triangular prism is 420m3
How to Personally Tailor a Cover Letter
How to Personally Tailor a Cover Letter Ah, the classic cover letter. If you dont have at least some sort of template for one of these typed up, then you are nowhere near ready to embark on the job application process. However, there is something very crucial to remember about these original templates you create never send them out without meticulously personalizing them to the job/company you are applying to. Once you have the basic form of your cover letter set up, do not forget to go over these essential points: Who are you sending this to? This is not in reference to the company. It means who specifically will be receiving and reading this initially? Scan the job posting and/or Careers section of the company website to try to find the name of the person you will be sending this to. Sometimes it will be easy since the application prompt may instruct you to email your materials to [Insert Name Here] at [Insert Email Address Here]. But other times, it will just give you a generic email with no name attached to it. Depending on the type of company, it may be okay to call and ask who receives the applications. But if not, you will just be stuck without a name to address it to and in that case, always use To Whom It May Concern. What are the responsibilities of this job? Never fail to acknowledge your understanding of what this role entails. It is your responsibility in this cover letter to prove why your experience matches the duties of this job, so going on and on about general accomplishments that dont necessarily relate to the position will not help you. You must filter out the impressive things youve done that prove you are qualified specifically for what you are applying for. What does this company do? Conduct your background research and let the reader of this letter know that you are fully aware of what their company does. Explaining why youre a match for the job is great, but without demonstrating a clear understanding of what this company is all about, your self-sales pitch is not complete. Going into some details about why you admire this organization and the aspects of it that attracted you to apply will set you apart. Otherwise, you are selling the cover letter short of its personalized touch and subsequently selling yourself short as well. If you thoroughly cover all these areas while confidently marketing yourself as the best candidate out there, you will have one well-presented cover letter. Just dont forget to double-check everything. The worst mistake you could make is getting the title of the position wrong or leaving in the name of a different company you applied to yesterday. Those kinds of typos are unfixable, so do your best to get it all right the first time!
CMA Certified Management Accountant
CMA Certified Management Accountant Are There Benefits To Having A CMA Qualification? ChaptersWhat Does A CMA Do?What Exams Do I Need To Pass To Become A CMA?Is The CMA Qualification Right For Me?If youâre looking for a career in accounting, then the CMA qualification may be a perfect fit for you.Specifically, the Certified Management Accountant qualification, known as the CMA for short, is issued by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), which is based in the US. As such, the CMA is typically known as a US qualification, but itâs worth noting that the CMA is internationally recognised, so management accountants in the UK can also study for the qualification as well.Globally, there are over 70,000 members of the IMA in over 100 countries, so if you do decide to pursue the qualification, youâll be in good company with thousands of other people!Preparing periodic cash flows;Budget analysis; andCommunicating financial data and its implications to department heads who donât work in finance.Management accountants also typically liaise with other members of a companyâs finance team.Note that the role of a management accountant differs from other positions in the accounting and finance world, such as an auditor. An auditorâs job, for example, is to review a companyâs accounts to assess a number of things, including whether they are materially correct and not materially misstated. However, itâs not solely management accountants that work towards becoming a CMA. For instance, a variety of other positions may contain people who are CMA qualified, such as:Financial controllers;Cost accountants;Financial analysts;Treasurers; andChief Financial Officers.Undecided about your choices? Find out what a Certified Financial Analyst does...Management accountants with a CMA qualification can provide real insight into the inner workings of businesses. (Image Source: CC0 1.0, geralt, Pixabay)What Exams Do I Need To Pass To Become A CMA?If you think that the CMA qualification may be right for you, itâs important to be aware of the various requi rements that youâll need to meet before you can achieve the qualification. For example, you will have to meet requirements such as:Having a current IMA membership;Meet the relevant professional experience requirements; andComplete both parts of the CMA exam. For a full list of the requirements, please refer to the CMAâs website. When it comes to the examination portion of the requirements, the curriculum of the CMA is broken down into two separate parts.Part One is concerned with âfinancial reporting, planning, performance, and control.â Part Two, on the other hand, looks at financial decision making.Overall, it should take around a year to a year and a half to complete both parts of the CMA, although youâre allowed up to three years to complete both partsâ examinations. This means that it should be possible for most candidates to find the time to fit the study demands of the CMA around their work and social life. While the exams are by no means a walk in the park, the IMA n otes that there is a 50% pass rate worldwide, which means that the exams are passable, provided you put in the time to study, develop good exam technique and have the aptitude for the materials taught.Good preparation is always key when it comes to passing an exam; to that end it would be beneficial to engage a finance tutor. If you try to study regularly, keep yourself motivated by thinking about the benefits that a CMA designation could have on your career, and remember that you won't be studying forever, then you may find the process of preparing for the exams less stressful. How about becoming an ACA Chartered Accountant?Whether you decide to study the CMA qualification may depend on where in the world you would like to work. (Image Source: CC0 1.0, n3otr3x, Pixabay)Is The CMA Qualification Right For Me?In the accounting and auditing profession, there are a number of different qualifications, each of which brings its own benefits. Therefore, doing your research to understand which qualification will suit your specific circumstances is really important. For instance, there is another qualification that management accountants based in the UK like to pursue, which is issued by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).When it comes to choosing between studying for a CIMA qualification or the CMA, it can often be a difficult decision to take. This is because both have been around for decades, and both are internationally regarded and can often improve your career prospects and earning potential. What benefits are there to having an ICAEW Chartered Accountant Qualification...However, while each qualification carries its own recognition, there are a few instances when a CMA may be preferable over a CIMA and vice versa. For instance, where youâd like to work in the world may influence whether you see the CMA or the CIMA as more preferable. If, for example, you see yourself working in the UK for the vast majority of your career, then the CIMA qualifica tion may be preferable to you. However, if youâd like to work over in the United States, then the CMA may be just whatâs needed. Ultimately, it will depend on your own personal circumstances, and which qualification you think will best give you the knowledge and skills to succeed throughout your career.Note that this dilemma doesn't just appear when thinking about whether to take the CMA or CIMA qualification. In fact, some prospective candidates also find it difficult to choose between the CPA and the ACA or ACCA. As above, completing the CPA exam and meeting the other CPA membership requirements is more commonly a route seen in the United States, while those planning on working in the UK tend to study towards the ACA or ACCA.Do you know how to put your CPA qualification to good use? Many CMAs have solid numerical skills. (Image Source: CC0 1.0, Luiz-Jorge-Artista)Are There Other Qualifications I Should Be Aware Of?There are plenty of accountancy or business qualifications out t here, such as the:CPA;ACA;ACCA; or evenAn MBA.As a result, it can be really confusing if youâre looking at entering the accounting or auditing sector, as it can be difficult to decide which qualification is the best.Ultimately, when it comes to deciding between a qualification such as the ACA and the CMA/CIMA, it is worthwhile thinking about the kind of career that youâd like to follow. If you think that you might want to become an auditor, or work for one of the âBig 4â professional services firms â" Deloitte, KPMG, PWC, or Ernst and Young, an ACA qualification may be better than the CMA.However, if you know youâd like to work within the area of management accounting, the CMA may be preferable, as the syllabus is more focused on this line of work than the ACA, which is wider in scope. If you do have any questions about which qualification(s) could be worthwhile for you, it may be worthwhile talking to your careers adviser at school or university if you do need any extra a dvice. You may also consider specialising as a Certified Fraud Examiner...It may also be worthwhile noting that most qualifications also require an element of continuing professional education (CPD) even once you have become a member of that respective organisation or body. The idea behind having CPD is that you keep your knowledge and skills up to date, for example with matters such as changing accounting policies. It's also likely that, as part of your pathway to membership of these bodies, you'll have to learn about ethical behaviours or ethics more generally.Ultimately, the choice of which qualification - if any - you'd like to pursue is a matter of your own personal choice, but often people who want to work within the accounting, business or finance industries find that relevant qualifications can help boost their career prospects and future earning potential. As a result, if you feel as though you would like to ultimately have a career in an area such as management accounting, b ut want to check that your numerical and accounting skills are up to par, it may be worthwhile hiring a tutor from Superprof to help ensure that your knowledge is where it should be.Regardless of whether you're currently studying at school or university, Superprof has a range of tutors across subjects such as mathematics, economics, business, and accounting, who can provide a variety of questions and test examples to help put you through your paces and give you the knowledge you need to succeed.Itâs just a case of entering your postcode to find a tutor that is local to you if you would like to have individual or group accounting tuition online or in person. Why You Need a Personal Brand (Even If You Think You Dont) - Introvert Whisperer
Introvert Whisperer / Why You Need a Personal Brand (Even If You Think You Donât) - Introvert Whisperer Why You Need a Personal Brand (Even If You Think You Donât) Personal branding is one of those terms that are largely unclear or misinterpreted. As a result, some experts in the field are steering away from the term altogether. But I like the term. I think itâs filled with meaning and can see why Tom Peters (business guru) coined the term a decade ago. What Is Branding? To get you clear, letâs first look at this from a purely marketing point of view, since thatâs where this term came from. Wiki defines branding as: âName, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one sellers goods or service as distinct from those of other sellers.âPeople engaged in branding seek to develop or align the expectations behind their brand experience, creating the impression that a brand associated with a product or service has certain qualities or characteristics that make it special or unique. In other words, when you see a McDonald s and eat at a McDonalds, you think of certain visual images, as well as a consistent eating experience and environment. Youâre very clear this isnât going to be a fine dining experience; you know what to expect. Thatâs what branding does for the buyer. It helps them know where to go to have a specific product or service and experience. How Do You Make Branding Personal? To translate that for your usage, personal branding is what identifies you from another person and what other people can expect when âexperiencingâ or being with you. In the work context, itâs your work reputation and what people come to value about you. Your personal brand is unique to you. Thereâs no one else out there with the same constellation of skills and personal behaviors you have. Granted, there may be others with greater expertise than you, but we arenât talking about a comparison when it comes to personal branding; weâre talking about only you and how you are viewed by others. For example, letâs look at Oprahâs personal brand. Visually, Oprah wears color and smiles. You see pictures of her touching and making contact with people. In her work, her focus is on being curious about the world, supporting the best in others and personal development. You could say many other things about what we expect out of her and how we experience her. All of that is consistent and clear to those of us watching her. Weâd all be shocked if she suddenly got cranky and negative. To summarize your personal brand: Itâs unique to you. Itâs your reputation. Itâs how others experience you and what they value about you. Itâs what others expect and seek you out for. Itâs also what YOU want to be known for. Why Does Personal Branding Matter? With those things in mind, now the big question is: Why is awareness of your personal brand important to your career? Here are 3 very good reasons: 1. If youâre aware of your personal brand and itâs consistent with your career goals, you want to reinforce it so people very clearly understand what youâre all about. It helps people remember you when itâs critical. (Click here to tweet this thought.) 2. If youâre ready to make a change in your career status in the foreseeable future, you want to think through how your brand needs to change so others start âseeingâ you at this new level. 3. If you arenât going where you want in your career, you probably have a mismatch between your personal brand and your aspirations. That means you have to do something to align those two things. You will only go as far as your personal brand supports. Your personal brand is always there, whether you understand it or are deliberate about managing it or not. You will find that if you pay attention to it and continually align it to your career goals, youâll be more successful at attaining these career goals.
